Edit conflict
Sorry for the editing conflict on Metabotropic glutamate receptor! --RichG 07:14, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

metabotropic glu receptor dubiousness
There is a statement in Metabotropic glutamate receptor,
"Rather than having much direct effect on postsynaptic potential, mGluRs serve to modulate the function of other receptors (Chu and Hablitz, 2000). "
I believe this to be in error. Though I cannot access the full article by Chu and Hablitz, metabotropic receptors do not modify other receptors. They usually modulate cAMP which leads to changes in ion channels - and through this they do change the postsynaptic potential. --RichG 10:33, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if what I wrote is exactly what they meant, but here's the part of the article I got it from (the beginning of the intro):
- "Glutamate is the principle excitatory neurotransmitter in the neocortex. It activates both ionotropic and metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs). The former is involved in fast synaptic transmission whereas the latter play a modulatory role." (Chu and Hablitz, 2000).
and later in the discussion:
- "Specific agonists for group II and III mGluRs failed to evoke a significant inward current, suggesting that these mGluRs are not involved in this postsynaptic response. This is consistent with results from electrophysiological studies showing a predominantly presynaptic effect of these receptors."
- Would it be a copyvio if I cut and paste the text of the chu article and email it to you? I'm surprised that you say that metabotropic r's don't modulate other r's because it was my understanding that they have a big role in modulating plasticity and excitability and so on. But the chu paper does say that they do have an effect on EPSP and IPSP, so the wording on that should be changed. Also, this article is old so new info might be available. Maybe we should just take that line out for now until someone has conclusive evidence. It's not that important of a point. Anyway, you're free to edit my work as you see fit. --Delldot 19:03, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
A little help
Sorry to bug you, but I'm having trouble with this page I'm working on,
- Hey thanks, that's a big help. So you think I should take some of the refs out? like maybe just leave one citation per thing and take out the rest? I don't really know how to go about it. I will take a look at neuropsychopharmacology, but I doubt I'll be any help to you. Delldot 04:00, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks

Cool! I'll get right on that (in the next couple days). Peace, Delldot 02:03, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Rich: I'm trying to revive the temporarily defunct Wikipedia:WikiProject Neuroscience. Because of your past edits on neuroscience related articles in the past, I thought I'd let you know. Cheers. :) Semiconscious (talk · home) 06:40, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Cold Therapy
Hello RichG,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Cold Therapy for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.
SamHolt6 (talk) 00:06, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
- Was there something unclear about the instructions above "please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top", or the instructions in the speedy deletion message on the article itself, saying "do not remove this notice from pages that you have created yourself"? In future, please leave someone else to remove the tag if appropriate. --David Biddulph (talk) 00:58, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

I DID resolve the problem, and the person who put the tag agrees. As for the sources tag, I put a reference and I even read "when and how to remove this tag" RichG (talk) 01:17, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
- Don't talk nonsense. The article still has no references. You have one external link (to a page in which neither the word "cold" nor the word "therapy" appear). Please read about references, and learn the differences between those and external links. --David Biddulph (talk) 01:25, 15 May 2018 (UTC)]
You are right about references and links, but sorry, you didn't look carefully enough. The link does discuss cold therapy. Here is a copy of part of it: "Cold Therapy Click HERE and HERE to Watch the Videos Developed by Sam Vaknin, Cold Therapy is based on two premises: (1) That narcissistic disorders are actually forms of complex post-traumatic conditions; and (2) That narcissists are the outcomes of arrested development and attachment dysfunctions. Consequently, Cold Therapy borrows techniques from child psychology and from treatment modalities used to deal with PTSD. Cold Therapy consists of the re-traumatization of the narcissistic client in a hostile, non-holding environment which resembles the ambience of the original trauma. The adult patient successfully tackles this second round of hurt and thus resolves early childhood conflicts and achieves closure rendering his now maladaptive narcissistic defenses redundant, unnecessary, and obsolete. Cold Therapy makes use of proprietary techniques such as erasure (suppressing the client’s speech and free expression and gaining clinical information and insights from his reactions to being so stifled). Other techniques include: grandiosity reframing, guided imagery, negative iteration, other-scoring, happiness map, mirroring, escalation, role play, assimilative confabulation, hypervigilant referencing, and re-parenting. - Your external link is to http://samvak.tripod.com/faq77.html%7CNarcissistic and the text you quote above does not occur on that page. Perhaps you intended to link to somewhere else? --David Biddulph (talk) 01:52, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
Ahh.. thank you and sorry! Yes I had a "|" in the link causing a mistake. Now it is fixed. RichG (talk) 02:01, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

The article Cold Therapy has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
No sources given to demonstrate notability of this particular technique, nor are any readily apparent. Possible promotion concerns given that the only thing resembling a source is a link to a page by the purported creator of this method (Sam Vaknin) and because the original content of the page was copyvio from that link. Regardless, seemingly niche psychological therapy about which there are not a mass of reliable secondary sources fails
WP:GNG. Given the lack of third-party sources I think this fails a merge into Sam Vakninbut that's a reasonable fallback.
