Elwood Buchanan

Hi. You recently voted to delete the Elwood Buchanan article. I've since done quite a bit of work on it and wondered if you might like to give it another look. Thanks. Perodicticus 18:17, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the thanks

Thanks for the comments, I'll give your school a look-see as soon as I get the time to give it it's due! Staxringold 06:28, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Merge Vote on
Ultraviolet map

Hi I was thinking about taking this whole merge discussion in an entirely different direction. Instead of merging the info on the poorly named

The DHARMA Initiative. How about we expand on Silentplanet
's idea and create sub sections on known Hatches?

Remember the "The DHARMA Initiative" article is supposed to focus on what it is. Adding more information to "the Swan" only shows that this hatch should be expanded upon in another article. The title of this article after all is not "The DHARMA Hatches." To me it looks like we should put in some information about what exactly the DHARMA Initiative is. We should give some history on it maybe include the information on the film and then some brief information about the hatches and what they are. Hatches that we know more about like "The Swan" should have its own page that would then contain information such as "the Map", "The Timer", etc... I think that this is a more reasonable solution and would also make it a more logical solution as an encyclopedia article. Please let me know what you think (in your talk page)! And if you do agree please note that on your merge vote! Thanks -- UKPhoenix79 04:03, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

Administrator Coaching
The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
The last AC meeting (full log
)
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the
    Esperanza main page
. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the
    Code of Conduct
. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching
    reform is agreed upon.

LotR

Hi -- just a note to say that although I'm currently opposing the FAC nomination for the LotR article, I really think you've done some very good work here. The article is a lot better for your time and attention. I hope to see it as a successful FAC. Good luck! Mike Christie 14:34, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. I no longer oppose on the grounds of length, or of needed introduction prior to the backstory. My only remaining concern is the references. I am not concerned about WP:LEAD, though I understand others may have issues there. Personally I do think there is more that could be cut, but it's now close enough for me not to worry about length. I'm watching the article and the FAC and will be reviewing my opposition as you work on it. Good luck. Feel free to nudge me to review my vote when you have done more work on the refs. Mike Christie 02:32, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

LOTR themes

Thank you for the notification, though when I saw the page I was doubtless confused by the lack of information regarding something so famous with Tolkien's work.

I apologise to those who didn't like it being a general list, and I do have difficulty on knowing how to write a new page. Anyway, thanks for the heads up.

So I've added that page now as a link. Is everything fine?

My RFA

Thanks
Thanks
SorryGuy/Archive 1, thank you for participating in my RfA. It passed with an amazingly unopposed 77/0/1. Thanks for the support everybody! If you see me doing anything wrong, want to ask me something, or just want to yell in my general direction, leave me a note on my talk page. I promise to try and knock out Wikipedia's problems wherever I may find them!

Staxringold talkcontribs 20:42, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

wait

Hello, you just put {{categorize}} on two articles I made, literally less than 5 minutes after they were created. Next time, give the author of the new article at least 5 or 10 minutes before adding {{categorize}}, it's annoying and can create an edit conflict pretty easily. — a thing 06:45, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

LotR book cites

Damn, you're quick! Good work on getting some of those cites together. Can I request you add page numbers when you have a chance? I won't hold up voting for FA on that basis, but I do think page numbers are worth while for book cites. Thanks. Mike Christie 05:18, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi; just changed to weak support on LotR FA; thanks for letting me know about the cites. Mike Christie 04:09, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

By the way, the reversion was correct, as

reliable source; on the other hand, you are also correct in that it was not vandalism. :) RadioKirk (u|t|c

No problem. Happy editing! :) RadioKirk (u|t|c) 04:01, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

More citation

Hey, sorry to be a pain ;), I did some more referencing, mainly in the plot section, other stuff to, really. I also took down some notes when I was reading, which you can see at User:HighwayCello/Noms#Lord of the Rings FAC. It's mainly style issues, the whole back plot has something up with the tenses, it's almost like it's not happened, which isn't good when you're talking about a backstory. Anyway, happy editting and good luck, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 21:42, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Good work on the citations

Can I add my voice to the chorus of approval on the citation work you've been doing! Great stuff.

About the citations for plot details, which HighwayCello mentions above, I've commented on this over at User talk:HighwayCello. Maybe the whole discussion should be taken to the talk page of the article itself? Carcharoth 21:58, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your support

Dear SorryGuy/Archive 1,
Thank you very much for your support on my recent RfA. I am pleased to announce that it passed with a tally of 72/11/1, and I am now an administrator. I'll be taking things slowly at first and getting used to the tools, but please let me know if there are any admin jobs I can do to help you, now or in the future. —Cuiviénen 02:24, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on

the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened
. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.
