Chicagoland

I'm not understanding the changing of the word "Chicagoland" to "Chicago area." Chicagoland is cited as unencyclopedic, yet it is consistently used across Wikipedia to refer to the Chicago MST. Chicagoland is consistently used in the area it's applied to as well as local news stations. I just want to understand the purpose of changing the phrase outside of being "unencyclopedic" when it's clearly been used throughout Wikipedia.
