Deddie Davies page - please can you help amend my referencing error?

Hi Paul Please could you help me put right my editing error on Deddie Davies' page?

I inserted "She became a trustee and recorded a video for UK registered charity Compassion In Care[1]"

In doing so I accidentally removed correct referencing for "From 2012, she appeared as Marj Brennig in the British TV series Stella.[1]"

thank you Edna'sLaw (talk) 06:23, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

I think the problem has now been resolved. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:50, 7 January 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, looks good. Thanks for fixing it. I found a Guardian article that made reference to the series so added that as well. This is Paul (talk) 17:58, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

Articles on murder cases

Hi Paul,

I see that you have created a number of articles on murder cases, such as the featured article

Murder of Celine Figard. You may be interested in contributing to Elisabeth Brichet case
, an article I created on Wednesday about a Belgian murder case. I would say it's a third, or maybe half, complete at the moment, with 16 citations and a number of references listed on the talk page that haven't been used yet. Most existing sources are written in French or Dutch, but there are a number from an English-language news service which covers events in Belgium. If you don't find the English references useful, I can email you translations of the French and Dutch ones if you can't understand them (I've translated a few already). I'd really appreciate it if you could help me improve the article!

Regards,

I'll have a look, but it might be a few days before I can do anything. I wasn't aware of this particular case, but am aware of the perpetrator since he has been a suspect in the Joanna Parrish case. I notice as well that Michel Fourniret is quite short, so it may be worth working on that as well. This is Paul (talk) 19:31, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
No problem, take your time. Speaking of Fourniret, I did prepare some stuff to go into his article a while back in my sandbox (see this revision); you might wish to use that for that article. Cheers!

An apology

To @Widefox: and others: Apologies if I was a little overwrought this weekend. I was witness to, and almost involved, in a car crash on Wednesday 5 April, and it took a couple of days for the reality of what happened to catch up with me. Basically someone was about to give me a lift. They were parked on an incline, and something went a bit awry with the car. It started rolling, eventually crashing into a house. On the way it caused minor injuries to two people, damage to several other vehicles, not to mention the brickwork of the house. Shocked at how fast it all unfolded, and relieved I hadn't actually got into the car at the time, but thirty seconds later and I would have been rolling with it. Feeling ok about it all now, and hope people don't mind me sharing this here. This is Paul (talk) 10:45, 10 April 2017 (UTC)

No problem, sorry to hear that This is Paul. Take it easy, regards Widefox; talk 17:52, 10 April 2017 (UTC)

To do list for 10 April 2017

  • Find a source for the following statement in the Diane James article:

Following her resignation, the leadership of UKIP passed back to Nigel Farage who was selected as the interim Party leader; another leadership election was held in November, in which Paul Nuttall was elected as the new leader of UKIP.

Help request

I asked this question at the helpdesk the other day, but didn't get an answe and the thread has now archived, so I'm trying again. I've noticed recently that I'm not always getting the tools when I click on the edit buttons on pages, and that some scripts aren't working. For example, the toolbar with bold, italic, AB, etc, that should appear when a page is in edit mode, sometimes doesn't. On such occasions there are also no 'insert' options below the edit summary box. Things like the fixing dashes tool at the top of the screen are also not often working properly. I usually edit in Chrome, but tried using IE to see if that would circumvent the problem. Although all seemed ok at first, after making one edit to fix dashes, things stopped working again. Is this something I need to fix, or is it a general problem that others have experienced. Any help or advice about this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, This is Paul (talk) 23:28, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Wikipedia has always worked best in open source browsers - namely Firefox or Opera. IE can be very touchy, and chrome has been known to cause issues in the past (once all the pages went pink...) Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:49, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
Oh dear. Guess I need to change my browser. I'll give Firefox a go and report back in a few minutes. This is Paul (talk) 00:03, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
ok, logged into Firefox and tried a couple of things, and it seems to be working ok. Thanks for the heads up about the others. This is Paul (talk) 00:09, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Talk:Bill Potts#See also section

I would like to point out to you that the 4 responses you have posted since I joined this discussion, you have personally attacked me in all of them and I don't think its been justified:

  • I see the names have been removed again albeit by a different editor. I won't revert it because I don't wish to engage with Alex in his/her favoured passtime (i.e., edit warring), but I will note that I suspect meat puppetry is at work here, since Dresken has offered an identical argument to the one given by Alex, and like him/her, Dresken has also offered a poor interpretation of WP:DABABBREV. Bill is not an abbreviations, an initial or an acronym of William, and I think you're both guilty of editing in bad faith. Alex, your reply to my suggestion above seems to suggest you're arguing for argument's sake. I believe, though I doubt I can prove it, that you feel this strengthens your case for having Bill Potts as the primary topic. All you're doing, however, is giving Wikipedia a bad name, and in turn also giving Doctor Who fans a bad reputation, as your username ties you to the programme. Shame on you.
  • When an editor with less than a thousand edits, and who edits occasionally, jumps into a discussion with a near identical argument, then that's suspicious behaviour. Meanwhile, for the second time today your comments appear to contain the hint of a threat. Chill, cobber!
  • Outside opinion sounds like a great idea. I had thought of it myself, but wasn't sure what the procedure would be as it involves more than one person. Happy for you to file a request there, if you're planning to do that. As for the collusion stuff, things got a bit heated earlier on, largely because I didn't like Alex's tone, which did sound like an intent to intimidate ("The quicker you do, the nicer you might find your experience here on Wikipedia" being an example). I suspect it's like you say – a case of Whoville vs the rest. They probably need to get out a bit more.
  • My thoughts exactly, though after my earlier skirmish with them I didn't want to be the first to say it. I'm also starting to think they might be the Crackers 'n' Smash of Wikipedia.

I have prompted you to be more civil a few times now - I am sorry that I do not agree with your view on this matter. I would be happy to continue on with a civil discussion if you would like to as well. Cheers, Dresken (talk) 02:46, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Well, I took up Alex's challenge after you both provided some circumstantial evidence. Fortunately for all of us you got the all clear. In future, I suggest you both refrain from the
kind of conduct you demonstrated on both pages. If you want a career in the legal profession then I suggest you study for a law degree. This is Paul (talk
