Additions to "External links" sections

Please read the

guideline on external links, and note that Wikipedia style is not, as you are doing
, to provide anything other than (basically) a title for external links. (Please shorten the length of external link entries you add from now on.)

In addition, external links should be listed in order of importance. So, in the Sam Wyly article, for example, an external link to a personal website is much more important than an external link to an interview; the interview link should not come first.

Finally, keep in mind that (a) a source used for a citation (footnote) shouldn't (normally) also be in the external links section, and (b) a source that isn't important enough to go into the external links section, and isn't already used as a citation, can still be added to the article, in a "Further reading" section (see

WP:GTL). -- John Broughton (♫♫) 19:04, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply

Just FYI

You usually want to use the names of articles that don't have underscores when adding wikilinks to articles. Robert K S (talk) 01:00, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Self-links

Please, do not link from an article to itself, as you did in this edit. — Emil J. 13:21, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of

WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion
will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of

Disambiguation link notification for August 25

Hi. When you recently edited Edmund Berkeley, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Brainiac (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Categorization

Please be aware that our category system puts an article into the narrowest applicable category. We do not also put the article in parent categories. That is, articles in "CDC hardware" or "CDC software" should not also be placed in "Control Data Corporation". Please desist doing this.
