Possible imitator?

At least here I use the account to see what newbies see and to thank people.
I just got tired of seeing a red link. I don't know how I ended up there.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 20:25, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nah you're alright. Just wanted to make sure it was you and that someone hadn't somehow hacked into your account. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 20:28, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I read comic strips and newspaper articles using private browsing because of limits which I can normally get around by closing the private browsing window, and I thanked someone for an edit since I was able to sign in there.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 21:41, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Malevo

About 15 years ago, a different user (visible in the edit history) undertook a deeply misguided program of just reflexively redirecting a whole lot of purported Argentine film titles to "List of Argentine films of YYYY", absolutely without regard to whether the list actually contained any information about any film of that title or not — the only thing I ever did was to recategorize all of them out of a category they shouldn't have been in to a maintenance category, so that they could be evaluated at a later date for whether any of them were justified or not, but not being all that knowledgeable about Argentine film I haven't undertaken the actual work of doing those assessments. What's even stranger about that one is that the only article that was actually linking to that title was doing so in the context of a 1972 film, not a 1990 film, so it's even more dubious.

I'd imagine that your article idea is almost certainly about the malembo troupe that's been on the world dance tour slash Got Talent circuit in the past few years, instead of a 1990 film — so if that's the case, then just take the title and run with it. But what you're seeing is somebody else who did something he shouldn't have, not anything that I did. Bearcat (talk) 18:49, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is indeed the dance troupe. Unfortunately, the one source I found so far is more an interview than anything else and I can't establish notability, but it looks like from what you're saying they could be notable.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 18:51, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't personally tried to research much about them, but I suspect there's a lot more about them out there than that — the challenge is that some of it would be in Spanish, a language I can't really read, which is why I haven't really tried to tackle them myself. But that said, I'm going to delete the redirect right away, since it's clear that there are multiple potential topics and the one that people would be most likely looking for at this point isn't a film. Bearcat (talk) 18:59, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind, I won't delete it since I now see you've already retargeted it to the concept article about their dance genre. That's a better interim step, so it's all good now. Bearcat (talk) 19:00, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What happens if there is an error in the title of a ref?

It has been suggested that these be simply corrected however many editors don't like such corrections being made. The best argument I have seen not to make corrections is that someone may wish to use the original text as a search string. Consequently if there have been corrections to faulty spelling then this makes such searching problematic. What I do on ref titles is use an alias of 'notatypo' which is 'as written'. Personally I feel that when a misspelled word has this or say a 'sic' template applied then the word should be obfuscated, always. So, I would typically apply the template as follows {{as written|rec|ieve [sic]}}. This entry format does not cause issues with the CS1/2 template formats which is what the 'sic' template does. You will see here a warning requesting that the sic template not be used in CS1/2 formats (.....because it includes markup that will pollute the COinS metadata.).
