Let me clarify something. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has not yet applied for an I-777 designation from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). US 421 does not meet Interstate Highway standards at this time, thus NCDOT can't request approval from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for inclusion of this section of highway in the Interstate Highway System either. In fact, it doesn't even look like this concept is a project of NCDOT, but rather some local economic development groups in the area. That means it is extremely premature to have an article because there are a lot of steps that would need to be taken first.

Once NCDOT gets on board with improvements to the highway to bring it up to standards and announces their intention to ask FHWA to include it as an Interstate, then we can consider an article. We'd have to be prepared for AASHTO to approve a different number for it though.

In general, a draft will not be approved for publication as an article unless it looks like an article. What I mean is that it needs content written in an encyclopedic fashion. Wikipedia does not "speak" in the first person, so you'll never see an article say "I don't have information". Wikipedia also repeats information researched from reliable sources, so an article will never say "I think", because Wikipedia articles repeat content that is already known. We don't speculate as Wikipedia editors. The lack of an I-777 marker wouldn't stop publication of a draft, but someone from the US Roads Project would come along soon after an create the missing graphic using the proper graphics templates that reflect proper signage specifications.

I would suggest though that if you're really interested in writing about highways in the US that you join us at the AARoads Wiki. Most of the active and prolific highway editors on Wikipedia have moved over there. There are more resources being devoted there, and frankly, the maps are better in the AARW infoboxes. 😉 Imzadi 1979 → 03:32, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
