The matches are now universally recognised as Tests, but I don't know whether who first called them that is a question that can be answered. I think I remember reading that the term "Test match" originated in Australia some ten or fifteen years after this, but which writer or journalist first applied it retrospectively to the 1877 matches might be hard to pin down. The Imperial Cricket Conference wasn't founded until 1909, if I recall correctly, and only subsequent to that could there be said to be an official definition, even though the term had been in common use for several decades. This question has bugged me for years. Someone suggested on the Ask Steven Facebook page that George Giffen was the driver behind the acceptance of a list of matches that he favoured. Hi there, I note on the talk page for the Defeat of Boudica you mention that Boudica is rumoured to be buried in Coggeshall.
