My Appologis

Stay on topic. I will close this mediation otherwise and redirect all parties to AN/I. I am very upset about several ad hominem issues, and went a bit off topic. I appologize. A REDDSON

What do you think about Wikipedia_talk:Mediation_Cabal#Inexperienced_editors_as_mediators? Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 21:28, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, as discussion is continuing on the subject but the possibility of changing MedCab to separate it from the lower levels of DR (say 3O and DRN) which it is pretty much on par with at the moment to something more of a middle ground between lower forms of DR and MedCom, as at present it is more of a super jump up from 3O/RFC/DRN/MedCab to MedCom, and since DRN was created MedCab has become a bit redundant. I spoke to Kim Bruning the other day about this and he thought that it's something worth discussing, but am interested in your thoughts. Best,

GOCE drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors
September 2011 backlog elimination drive update

GOCE September 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the

! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation

We have had 55 people sign up for this drive so far, and 31 have participated. If you have signed up but have not yet copy edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! It's not too late to join the drive if you have not already done so. Another great way to help out is to watch-list the Coordinators talk page and participate in the ongoing development of the Guild.

Progress report

So far, we have reduced the backlog by 75 articles, or about 19% of our goal. We have also cleared January 2010 off of the queue and are close to clearing off February and March. If each participant were to copy edit two articles from February and March 2010, they would be completely eliminated from the queue.

Rollover words

Several concerns have been brought up this drive about the usage of rollover words. Rollover words only count if they're from the previous drive. For example, if you received 1,000 rollover words in March and didn't participate in May, your rollover words return to zero. This is to encourage participation in multiple consecutive drives.

Poll on ArbCom resolution - Ireland article names

There is a poll taking place here on whether or not to extend the ArbCom binding resolution, which says there may be no page move discussions for Ireland,Republic of Ireland or Ireland (disambiguation), for a further two years. Fmph (talk) 21:28, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

September 2011 backlog elimination drive report

GOCE September 2011 Backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the

! We would like to thank all who participated in this drive. Here is the end-of-drive report.

Participation

There were 58 editors who signed-up for this drive, of which 42 participated. This is a slight increase from the July 2011 drive participation, where 39 out of 50 people that signed up participated. Thank you to everyone!

Progress report

During the drive, we reduced the backlog by 146 articles, or by about 4%. Overall we did well, especially considering the exceptionally large number of articles that were tagged during September. Thus far we have reduced the copy edit backlog by 4854 articles, or by about 58%. If we keep up our current rate of copy editing, the backlog should be reduced by 65–70% by the end of this year. End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here. Barnstars will be handed out this week.

Once again, thank you for participating in the Guild's September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Our next drive will be in November, and we hope to see you there!

I couldn't help but notice this. You aren't mad/annoyed at the changes we made? If you are we can always change it back. It's up to you.

Gil Birmingham birth date dispute

You mediated a dispute between me and Gil Birmingham's publicist in September regarding his date of birth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/01_September_2011/Gil_Birmingham). Recently Materialscientist edited the birthdate, citing IMDB, so I went to have a look, and his birth date has been changed on IMDB to the one I contended was correct in the dispute. However, I can't determine whether there is consesus on WP about IMDB as a reliable source for birth dates. Can you advise? Thanks MinervaK (talk) 07:50, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Comments on Wikipedia:Representation

Hi there! My name is Whenaxis, I noticed that you are on the Mediation Committee. I created a policy proposal called Wikipedia:Representation. I think that this policy would help the Mediation Committee as well as the Arbitration Committee because the goal of this proposed policy is to decrease the amount of time wasted when an unfamiliar editor files a Mediation or Arbitration Committee when other forms of Dispute Resolution have not yet been sought. For example, an editor may come to the Mediation Committee requesting formal mediation when other dispute resolution areas have not been utilised such as third opinions or request for comments. A representative works much like a legal aid - there to help you for free and:

  • File a formal mediation case or an arbitration case on your behalf
  • Make statements and submit evidence at the case page on your behalf
  • Guide you through the expansive and sometimes complex policies and procedures of Wikipedia

This proposed idea can also help the editor seeking help because it can alleviate the stress and anxiety from dispute resolution because mediation and arbitration can be intimidating for those who are unfamiliar.

I would highly appreciate your comments on this proposal at: Wikipedia talk:Representation. Cheers and Happy New Year - Whenaxis about talk contribs 22:38, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
