In 1929 he was elected a Fellow of the
In the World War II he was consultant orthopaedic surgeon to the Department of Health.[5]
He became the first Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Edinburgh in 1948, and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1956.[6] He was elected a member of the Aesculapian Club in 1953.[7] He retired in 1958. In 1959 he was elected President of the Harveian Society of Edinburgh.[8]
He died on 23 February 1971.
