Thomas A. Edison High School is a public junior-senior high school located in Elmira, New York. It houses a student body of approximately 400 students in grades 9-12.

Athletic Facilities

In 2003, the school underwent a major renovation. The football field, Northrup Field, saw major changes. It's natural grass surface was replaced by FieldTurf and a synthetic running track was put in place, as well as a new stadium, press box, and vending/bathroom facilities. Under the same project, it's baseball field was renovated to include a new clay infield, as well as new dugouts and a 40 foot high backstop. In addition, a golf practice facility sponsored by First Tee was erected, including chipping and putting practice holes.

Mizanur Rahman started a volunteer initiative to build linkage among bangladeshis using internet. He started a philosophical and spiritual development movement where he wanted motivate and encourage people to become thoughtful, search the true meaning of life, etc. the creative portion of the movement is to create a scope to share the creativity (poems, stories, photography etc), the third part of the movement is to stand beside the helpless people when required (this includes safe blood program from volunteer blood donors, emergency response like flood, cyclone etc, winter cloth distribution etc). he also tried to create scope for people to work from their own location and position, for this reason, he created regional based groups like group for dhaka, chittagong, rajshahi, khulna, barisal, sylhet, probasi, canada, west bengal, indonesia etc. he also formed group for students of different institutions like dhaka university, buet, nsu, etc.

Located in San Marcos, Texas, the Gary Job Corps is the oldest and largest Job Corps in the nation, and was commissioned personally by President Johnson, who's autographed portrait has hung in the campus library since it's commission in 1965. Currently, there are only 2 remaining employees who were part of the original staff, Non-resident Counselor Isidoro Delgado, and Security Chief Bell.

The Gary Job Corps is named in honor of Edward Gary, who was the first WW2 soldier from San Marcos to be killed in combat.

The Gary Job Corps offers free residence to anyone between the ages of 16-24, granted there are no felonies on their adult record, no current warrants out for their arrest, and an individuals income for the past 6 months does not exceed $6,000. On campus residence is not a requirment to attend.

The Gary Job Corps has a full service cafeteria, which provides scheduled meals 3 times per day in a buffet style manner, food to the Gary center is provided by Sysco foods, based in San Antonio.

The Gary center also has the Ladybird Johnson Medical Clinic, which houses a skeleton crew staff of doctors, nurses, and dentists. The medical facility notoriably has a flower garden that Ladybird Johnson was personally responsible for planting, by the entrance.

The student population is usually in the area of 2,000 students, mostly male and primarily black/hispanic, with a small percentage being white or asian. To date, Security Chief Bell reads a list of anonymous recently expelled students, during the weekly general assembly, naming only their offense, whether it be drugs, violence, sexual misconduct, or other. The average expulsion rate since 2002 has remained at roughly 12 per week.

The Gary Job Corps Fitness Center boasts a fully equipped weight room, basketball court, 4 raquetball courts, basic necessary boxing equipment, foosball tables, and a rockclimbing wall, which was off-limits in 2004 due to safety interests. There is also a swimming pool which is open during the summer months. The athletic sports teams include: basketball, raquetball, baseball, and track. Their mascot is the panther, the teams colors are dark purple contrasted with light purple.

The Gary center also has an art studio containing oil and acrylic paints, canvass paper, brushes, and wood carving tools.

The trades offered at the school are: Machinist, Welding, Electrician, Carpentry, Apartment Maintenance, HVAC, Basic Office Technology, CNA training, Security officer training, Computer repair, Culinary Arts, Auto Mechanic, Auto Body repair, and oil changing, which is sponsored by Jiffy Lube. The Gary Job Corps is also home to a U.S. Army recruitment post. GED and Highschool equivalent diplomas are also offered through education classes, which are required if a student does not already have one.

Though the Gary Job Corps advertises student graduate placement into the workforce, with the exception of Jiffy Lube and the U.S. Army, there is less than a 30% success rate of immediate graduate placement into the trade of choice, and only a 12% success rate of continued employment after 6 months. Even though trades such as HVAC offer the required licensing as a prerequisite of graduation, the San Marcos chamber of commerce does not recognize Gary graduates as having received qualified training and experience. Many local employers refuse to hire Gary Job Corps students, thus the need for further training and usually placement elsewhere in the country. The Machinist trade is the only trade offered which does not include the required licensing and certification, though sponsorship and grants for further education is offered.

The Gary Job Corps is not without it's legal battles, the most recent notable one occurred in 2004 by John Kainer, a 20yr old caucasian student from Pelzner, South Carolina, who was expelled for the public disturbances and physical assaults that were inflicted upon him due to the display of his Confederate Battle Flag tattoo. After threats of legal action by his attorneys through a company called Prepaid Legal, Kainer was allowed to return to campus and continue his education in the electrical field until graduation later that year.

The Gary Job Corps center has also had a rising number of deaths and murders on campus through the 90's and 2000's, including the suicidal hanging of homosexual, Benjamin Flouroy in April of 2003. The center placed a memorial plaque in his name for approximately 1 year at the site of his death.

Former heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman is a graduate of the Gary Job Corps.

Hind Leys Community College is a college and sixth form school. Most students come from Shepshed and Castle Donington, although students come from other nearby towns and villages.

The headteacher is Mrs. Yvonne Lee.

Approximately 700 students attend Hind Leys.

Beckwithshaw Saints are an English football team that currently play in the Harrogate and District League Division 1, after being relegated from the Premier, at the end of season 06-07. The team play at the 'Village Ground' in the village and have been known to have a large following. The village itself lies just outside Harrogate in North Yorkshire.

TEAM COLOURS

Beckwithshaw currently play in blue at home and red away with navy shorts. They have been known to play in white and this kit was given its debut in the 2005-06 season at an away match against Burley Trojans, which was won 2-0. At the end of that season, Beckwithshaw just managed to avoid relegation to Division one.

NICKNAMES

Beckwithshaw's official nickname is 'The Saints' or 'Becky'(by the players themselves. The fans who, more often than not, turn out in their droves, despite occasional disppointing results, usually refer to the team as 'Shaw'.

06-07 SEASON

Despite a poor finish in the 05-06 season, Beckwithshaw came into the new campaign full of optimism. Despite this however, Mark Watson, then the manager decided to resign in charge of the team, due to work commitments and a desire to step out of the limelight. Steve Lawrence, manager for the 05-06 season which over saw survival stepped in the fill the shoes alongside David Ramshaw, the veteren defender, who is constantly in the local papers after being linked with moves to Knaresborough Celtic and Sherwood F.C.

The season got off to a good start. Winning three games in a row at home The Saints soon found themselves at the top of the Premier. However, a defeat against Kirk Deighton started a slump in the September and Beckwithshaw were not to win again until the December where a 3-0 win against Otley resoted some hope of surviving the drop. However, it wasnt to be. A run of bad results at the end of the season meant the Saints finished bottom. Down, but not out, the majority of the players vowed to continue in Division One to help restore some pride at the Village Ground and repay fans loyalty.

The Premier Division at the end of 06-07 looked like this.

07-08 SEASON

The story so far

The Saints were all set for a big campaign in what most believed would be a title winning season. However, not everything has gone to plan. David Ramshaw stepped down as player coach and was replaced by long term injury casualty and midfielder stalwart, Dan Ridgway. Steve Lawrence again agreed to manage the team, but he resigned after 6 games of the season gone due to work commitments, meaning that Ridgway took charge for the remainder of the season. After winning the first game of the season against Albert 3-2, the Saints had mixed success. Only a win against Yorkshire Amateur Reserves eased the pain as they slipped to 4 defeats including a 5-0 away defeat at Knaresborough Celtic and a disappointing home defeat against Addingham. Needing a change of fortune, Beckwithshaw then faced Otley Rovers on the 15th September 2007. Beckwithshaw put in a fantastic performance against a physical side and came out 4-1 winners. This started a run of a 6 wins on the trot,including a 10-2 win against Hampsthwaite United in the cup. The run was eventually ended by rivals Pateley Bridge at home. Beckwithshaw then eased some pain by recording 2 wins in 3 games, before their last game before Christmas, which was a 3-1 win over Addingham to gain revenge for the home defeat in September.

The title dream however looks like long shot and with the next fixture against Yorkshire Amateur away in January, it could prove to be a difficult new year.
