Once again, it appears that the GNIS folks got the location wrong. The source is the Iowa Geological Survey, a frequent visitor to these discussions; the location appears on the topos, though, as nothing more than a benchmark across the road from a house. The Strand post office, however, was not located there, as best I can determine: it was in a store across the road from the Strand Lutheran Church, which still stands, and whose website provides this page briefly discussing the store and the post office therein. The topos show the church but no town, and browsing through the other pages on the church website, I get the impression that to them Strand was a general locale and not a town per se. • The 1918 Polk's Iowa State Gazetteer has "a discontinued postoffice in Lincoln township, Adams county", which agrees with the coördinates in the article. Bing Maps has a "Strand cemetery" just to the west. http://iaadams.com/strand.htm is a page maintained by a Roger Cox. It points to a 1984 History of Adams County, Iowa in turn. Google Books didn't even hint at that. Uncle G (talk) 04:48, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete This location is only of local significance.TH1980 (talk) 01:20, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. My understanding is that this deletion nomination is based on the belief that Strand was not a community, and may be a GNIS error. But I was able to find an 1895 Adams County Free Press article which discusses the new ownership of the Lovig Store "in Strand", indicating they knew Strand was a community. Even today, the church at Strand is open, and their website mentions being in Strand. Strand appears on the Rand McNally 1903 State of Iowa map, so they regarded it as a community in that era. I was able to expand the article using these sources and others.
Notability is not temporary, and since this small community was noted by multiple sources from 1875 to present, there's no reason to delete it. Firsfron of Ronchester 23:43, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply
