- The result of the discussion was: Delete. Vegaswikian (talk) 21:04, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Recently created eponymous categories. Only have 1 article and 1 sub-cat. I don't see a serious expansion happening here, of articles "about" Salon or Slate magazine which require such a category. Thus, delete. Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 22:50, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Delete. Smallcat, etc. Neutralitytalk 22:06, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- Question See the related category Category:Slate (magazine) people, which I think is the motivation behind having a category called "Slate". There are 36 biographies in this category and all of these people have an affiliation with this publication. I feel like there should be some category link between a publication and its writers, and although having the magazine category is questionable I feel that the subcategory within the magazine category is useful and would not like seeing that one deleted. If Slate (magazine) were deleted, then what should be the name of Category:Slate (magazine) people? How should the writers category be associated with the main article for the publication? Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:08, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- You don't always need eponymous categories to contain things like this. They should be treated individually. If there are enough articles to merit a "people of X", that doesn't mean you also need a category "X" as a container. The association is through the name of the category itself, which is sufficient. --Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 15:53, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Delete -- WE do not need a catergory just to hold a sub-cat and what will probably always be its main article. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:49, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: This category is unnecessary because it contained only one significant article: Fast Ferry Scandal into it into the near future. I have also proposed its third former member Template:PacifiCat ferries be deleted. I have orphaned the category. The reason for these moves is that the three ferries in this class are simply not unique enough to warrant their own articles, which is what this wiki infrastructure was meant for. - Comment I see no reason to merge the scandal article into the class article -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 06:48, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Category:Wikipedia categories named after North American Class I railroads

- Nominator's rationale: All the subcategories in Category:Wikipedia categories named after North American Class I railroads are not tracking categories so should be moved into Category:Class I railroads in North America WOSlinker (talk) 13:53, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. Is Royal Palm Hotel (Miami) a Class I railroad? These categories include substantially more then the railroad. They include people, buildings, bridges and other articles and companies. Since a parent category is required to be appropriate for the vast majority of the contents, the target category fails that test. What belongs in Category:Class I railroads in North America is the railroad articles. Vegaswikian (talk) 16:52, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Well, something need doing with the categories if it isn't merging since, for exmaple Category:Florida East Coast Railway doesn't belong to any categories apart from hidden categories. -- WOSlinker (talk) 22:28, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Two suggestions: Either mark all the subcategories as tracking categories as well, or remove the tracking template form the parent category and rename it to something without Wikipedia in the title, for example Category:Topics related to North American Class I railroads -- WOSlinker (talk) 22:33, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- There is no requirement that a category have a non hidden category as a parent. The correct solution here appears to be to make sure that the railroads are in the correct category. Vegaswikian (talk) 22:39, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

- Oppose this is how eponymous categories are currently categorised. See also the recent close Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2013_April_4#Category:Wikipedia_categories_named_after_festivals. Tim! (talk) 08:53, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
