Where is the issue taking place?
Turkmenistan
Who's involved?
I don't know name(s) or nickname(s) of particular people, but I believe its a person or a group of people who want to form a negative image of Turkmenistan as a country. Their information on Turkmenistan is outdated and its all from outside/Western/Russian sources.
What's going on?
The opponent distorts historical image of Turkmen nation. After we regained independence in 1991, we found out that Turkmens are discendants of Hunnic Empire, which is supported by Chinese and Turkish historical sources. The nation has a great historical background, and any nation deserves to identify itself (for example in Wikipedia) as it finds fit. Now, the other party describes us as pathetic losers who have achieved nothing in history. I believe its a continuation of outside/Western/Russian policy to break spirit of Turkmen people, and to keep new independent states underdeveloped.
What would you like to change about that?
I believe the article on Turkmenistan in Wikipedia should favour Turkmen nation and not someone else. The view of Turkmenistan has to be given by someone from Turkmenistan. If someone wants to present their subjective view of Turkmenistan and Turkmen history, they should do it on their own websites, not on Wikipedia.
Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?

Mediator response

Please see Wikipedia policies on POV and NPOV. The article should favor neither the Turkmen view nor the Russian view. It should favor a neutral view. HeBhagawan 12:35, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with that, obviously.

Discussion

While using the talk page of the article in question to solve a dispute is encouraged to involve a larger audience, feel free to discuss the case below if that is not possible. Other mediators are also encouraged to join in on the discussion as Wikipedia is based on consensus.

I did not find anything in the Discussion about Turkmenistan signed by the user. I think this article follows NPOV policy too rigorously. This is a real tradegy what happens with people in Turkmenistan right now! But this article merely states the facts. Biophys 07:17, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
