Welcome to the twelfth and final Bugle for 2023!

The article news section includes four new featured articles, three of which are biographies, as well as a pair of new featured pictures. Only one article was promoted to A-class status last month. Nick-D has contributed an op-ed reflecting on his experiences working on articles about the Rhodesian Bush War - a somewhat obscure but complex topic. Nick-D has also contributed a review of a recent work on the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the regular book reviews section.

Nominations are open for the Military historian of the year and Military history newcomer of the year. Nominations close at 23:59 (GMT) on 20 December 2023, and voting on the resultant candidates is open from 00:01 (GMT) on 21 December to 23:59 (GMT) on 30 December 2023, so get behind your choices for the outstanding Milhist members now!

  • Hog Farm for Hog Farm is the name in the English Wikipedia's coverage of the American Civil War, with dozens on dozens of articles of quality, and has devoted years of his time and energy to the coordination and maintenance of MILHIST. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 19:20, 2 October 2023 (UTC)..[reply]

The November edition of the contest department's article writing contest saw Pickersgill-Cunliffe take the top spot in the contest with 55 points from 7 articles. He claims the Wikichevrons as his prize. Zawed finished second in the November contest with 40 points from 7 articles and was awarded the Writer's Barnstar. Other entries in November were submitted by Djmaschek, simongraham, and Sturmvogel_66. Monthly totals are applied to the overall 2023 writer's cup, which will be decided at the end of December.

The December edition of the contest is now open. Consider submitting your current article projects as entries into the competition.
