Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Technical/Page from when Pete Forsyth tried to do this same thing in 2016

Source: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Placeholder page; as of January 2016, EIC Pete Forsyth is trying to keep a record of the various technical tools that do, or should, form the foundation of the Signpost's logistics -- i.e., subscription, production, delivery, archiving, search, etc.

Currently used

  • bots
    • The publication bot (which has existed in at least two iterations) is broken.
  • import scripts
  • templates
  • the code (does it live in templates?) that generates things like the MassMessage text and the text for Wikimedia-Announce.
  • Slack -- our main internal communication tool
  • Google Docs -- used for composing many stories
  • Hypothes.is -- used for giving feedback on stories submitted on-wiki

Need work

  • Production bot
  • Blog import script

Considering

  • Trello -- for keeping a list of what's going into the next edition, and maybe other uses
  • Newsletter extension -- for "delivering" each edition to subscribers, via Echo notification and/or email
