General points
- "Initially the prize was awarded to the artist..." Initially it was open to non-artists also. In 1986 Nicholas Serota (curator) and Matthew Collings were commended.[1] (This info needs to be added.)
- "More recently, the prize itself has suffered criticism..." It's been controversial and criticised all the way through for one reason or another.
- Criticism has been directed at individual participants, not just the prize as a whole. In 1994 K Foundation art award was given to the winner Rachel Whiteread. The Stuckists have actually demonstrated annually since 2000, and targeted nominees/winners.[2][3]
- A mention of the jury + composition/chairman?
- Mention could be made of the pressures on nominees/winners:
- "We want the artists to be comfortable with media pressure. We have to shield them."[4]
- "Tyson said the prize was 'a great honour', and said he was relieved the ordeal was over. 'Not because I've won but because the pressures get to you. - Effect on participants: "For an artist in Britain, perhaps even the world, I doubt that there is an opportunity to exhibit that garners more attention than the Turner Prize. - Several artists have refused to take part, notably Sarah Lucas and Julian Opie.
- There have been surprise results: Chapman Brothers and Tracey Eminnot winning.
- Overview: "The Turner is now in its third age. It started by hon-ouring the old avant garde, Gilbert and George, Richard Long and Howard Hodgkin. Then it moved into its golden adolescence when Charles Saatchi was synonymous with what was hot in contemporary art and the press went into outraged overdrive over lights going on and off or an unmade bed. The YBAs are now middle-aged, their studios are factories and they give to charity auctions for their children’s schools. Now the prize highlights the work of emerging young talents."[10]
- I preferred the gallery at the bottom, as it makes the table easier to read. I think more images should be included. It's not random: it's illustrating the list. Tracey Emin should be there as one of the most famous nominees, despite not winning.

A lot of the information you have described above is useful and interesting but I think some of it belongs in the main article, not this list. But I will address each of your comments. Thanks. - I think at the moment there's too much in the lead about the Turner Prize in general (which is/should be covered in the main Turner Prize article), and not enough targeted specifically at nominees/winners. If any of the above is useful, please use it, but feel free to incorporate it in the main article, or move any of it to Talk:Turner Prize if you wish.
