Should we request protection on all GA and FA class articles?
It concerns me that some Category:GA-Class_Hip_hop_articles are not semi-protected, and fall out of GA status regularly. Wikipedia:Rough guide to semi-protection states...
"What is the quality of this article? Higher quality articles are more damaged by vandalism than similar low quality articles, and there is also less likelihood that a given edit will improve the article. In addition, since higher quality articles are more complete, there is less likelihood that the article will need to be edited in the first place."
There are only 47 GA articles (right now). If they aren't being vandalized routinely, we can't ask for permanent semi-protection, but at least 6 months should do. Also, FA articles should be fully protected. There should be absolutely no reason for an FA article to fall from that status if edits are properly sourced with care. We only have 12 FA articles, is there consensus? Prapsnot (talk) 19:51, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- Strong support. Sounds logical - there is enough regular annoying vandalism to warrant it, I think. Crateescape101 (talk) 21:21, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Does Tha Connect meet notability requirements? Considering it only sold 2400 copies the first week? Who then was a gentleman? (talk) 02:10, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
- While only selling in the neighborhood of 2,400 copies first week, that managed to rank it #21 & #47 on the Rap & R&B/Hip-Hop albums charts respectively. If it had sold 2,400 copies and didn't chart on these charts, then I think the question might be valid, but since it did appear on two Billboard charts, I think it might stand. Some editors are going through the categories replacing the cat "American Rapper" with "African American Rapper" and "European American Rapper". Is that really necessary? danno 11:49, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Soulja Boy Tell'em Middle Name.
Hello all, while I am aware that many do/may not like Soulja Boy and/or his music, there seems to be a little problem we're having. We have several sources which clarify two different middle names for the artist. There was once a discussion which seemed to land at a consensus of "Ramone" over "Cortez" as one was mostly used by blogs and other non-reliable sources. But now, as he was recently arrested, the debate seems to have sparked again. I am bringing this here for possible help. Thank you. -- 17:55, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
- Sources that Suggest his name middle name is Cortez. However these are all from the same event and there is a chance that a mistake made could propagate through all the other sources. I am indeed very curious as to what his real middle name is. Perhaps the Police department will release a briefing, I'm sure they found out his real middle name when they arrested him. --Vishnu2011 (talk) 18:19, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
Project Members Clean-Up
I've noticed that some of the users on the members list are either retired or haven't made edits in the last couple of years, which suggests unofficial retirement from Wikipedia. I was thinking maybe we should leave messages on all the project members talk pages to find out who's still on Wikipedia and who's not. That way we can take users who are no longer editing off the members' list. It would make things such as collaboration or just running the project much easier to know who's still active. Just a theory. Any thoughts? WikiGuy86 (talk) 00:00, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
Redesigning the Project Page
What do you all think about possibly redesigning the project page? I was thinking about creating a new layout among the lines of the Simpsons WikiProject page. Let me know if we should keep it the way it is or change it. If so, I'll try to get to work on it ASAP. WikiGuy86 (talk) 13:09, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
- A change sounds good to me. Crateescape101 (talk) 15:27, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

This is a notification of the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums regarding the removal of reviews from the album infobox. The discussion has reached consensus to remove the reviews, though is still accepting further input into the matter. We are especially requiring more discussion on what steps to take next. Your input would be appreciated on what is a matter that will affect a lot of music articles. kiac. (talk-contrib) 09:32, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none
parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Hi. I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section but since he mainly edits hip hop articles, I have to bring it up here. I have been dealing with Rcool35's vandalism for a long time and even though it takes me a few seconds to revert them but the main problem is that he doesn't want to learn or stop. Here are some of the things he does.
- Add the expand and update tags. (IP's are not allowed to add those tags, only users are.)
- Adding mixtapes, albums released prior to the labels founding and albums released in different countries. (If it's released by that label and a source says so then it's released by the label. Mixtapes do not count as albums unless they're released by a major label.)
- Copyviolations.
- Constant vandalism on articles related to Winsin & Yandel.
Now I have showed him all of these policies and I have tried to get him to change his ways but he is completly arrogant and isn't willing to listen to reason or logic. That's why I'm asking you for help, this has got to stop. I am tired of waiting for him to stop vandalizing. So can you do something?

Request for comment on Biographies of living people
Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:
Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people
Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, many wikiproject topics will be effected.
The two opposing positions which have the most support is:
- supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
- opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect
Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.
Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced BLP articles if they are not sourced, so your project may want to source these articles as soon as possible. See the next, message, which may help.

Hip Hop & Hip hop music
Something desperately needs to be done about there being two articles about such a prominent subject. Right now I would think the best move would be to move
) 08:28, 4 November 2009 (UTC)- I don't know, it might be best to leave it the way it is. Although hip hop music is generally referred to in the media simply as hip hop, it does not represent the entirety of the culture. If we move it under the the hip hop title, some may misinterpret the music as being the most important aspect of the culture, which isn't necessarily the case. Just my thoughts. WikiGuy86 (talk) 20:43, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
- My general concern is that the vast, vast majority of people searching 'hip hop' will be looking for the music. Punk subculture is a similar situation, and is a precedent. Zazaban (talk) 03:51, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
- I think it's logical the way it is at the moment - with the culture and collection of elements as the main article and then the elements (such as the music) as articles leading off from that.
- Punk subculture is different in that punk subculture is more created around the music... with Hip-Hop, other elements of the culture came first before the music genre was properly formed (b-boying, DJing, graffiti... then later MCing, then later records combining DJing and MCing to create the records). Hip-Hop's cultural elements are also more clearly defined than Punk's, with Hip-Hop music being an element of the culture, rather than the main thing. Possible vandalism?
I;m not expert on hip hop, so someone who is better versed on it might want to look at the edits made today by User:69.209.224.227. He made about 200 or so edits today, all hip hop articles, where he changed the genre of the song/artist/group/album. I could be totally wrong, but something doesn't look right.
