The aim of the photo is just to illustrate an SP1900, and issues on train direction by themselves do not justify the photo to be changed. Moreover, such issues can be explained by asserting the photo as looking southbound, and since all trains in Hong Kong (except MOS Line) run on the left, the train is moving away from the photo. We can't use the image from Chinese WP because that was uploaded under fair use there. Each language WP is technically seperate from each other, so we can't just take something that was uploaded specifically for Chinese WP and use it here. But one thing we can do is ask the user that scanned the image for Chinese WP to upload it here and tag it as fair use for English WP. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 23:50, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't think it's a good idea. There some flaws on the image at Chinese Wikipedia. First, the photographer of that image shook his hand while he take the photo, which made the image appeared to be blurred. The Card also have scratches on it.—Preceding

This is very interesting, because apparently nobody in the world saved a digital copy or still have a copy to be scanned. Hi all,

I'm completing an article on the 1982 Hong Kong film Boat People. I couldn't find much information on the critical response to the film from within Hong Kong and the PRC and since I don't speak Chinese it's hard for me to find them. I would appreciate any help finding reliable sources and translations on this topic, and would also appreciate it if the article is converted to Hong Kong English. Hello! I've been going through the many MTR station pages and have had a few concerns. Though Hong Kong English can logically be understood after re-reading, I'm not sure if it presents the most universal representation of the content in the English Wikipedia. Some grammar issues and structuring varies even from standard British English. I was going to go ahead and re-phrase some parts but I fear that it might become an issue, and I don't want to become invasive since I have not contributed content (ie: Mainland users who change everything to simplified Chinese, pinyin, PRC, etc). To Davumaya: True, Hong Kong English varies even from standard British English in terms of spelling. For example, in Hong Kong the word "decolourize" is used with the letter "u" (inherited from British English) but using the suffix -ize (inherited from American English) in its most common form. As for grammar, in most cases British grammar is preferred, but American and Australian grammar and style is also widely accepted. That is completely different. Italy and the Vatican are two completely different states. The Vatican is not part of Italy. Hong Kong is part of China. There is only one state. Take a look at Talk:London. London has its own WikiProject, so it uses the WikiProject London template. London is also part of England, so it also uses the WikiProject England template. By your logic, are you suggesting that the WikiProject England template should be removed? There are thousands of place articles like this. I suggest we keep a high level of autonomy for Hong Kong for now. Personally (personally), I'm all no's for it. But of course, we work by concensus, so we'll wait for a third comment. But frankly, the main reason for this because I've caught in a few nasty arguements around China-Taiwan status, and if we reap Hong Kong and Macau articles under the China banner, it will be one sticky mess because it will pull Taiwan in for sure. Re to initial topic: Because we have no specific WP guidelines to base this issue on, WP would like us to use consensus on this matter. I put my straw in that HK is part of China in the current geopolitical context based on the following. 1) Presently, HK is politically designated and recognized as part of the country of China (currently given a SAR designation). This recognition extends to most of the world following British handover. 2) HK belongs to the Cantonese diaspora and has an ethnic and underlying cultural connection that is still fairly seamless between the "mainland" and HK people. 3) Historically the area that is now HK has for the most part been under the banner of Chinese dynastic rule before the British, and considering it was taken by force warrants that we cannot suggest HK is somehow an independent state of its own accord. But it of course does not mean we call it Hong Kong, China, no, that would be like saying New York, USA. Because HK as an encyclopedic article exists solely on its own merits as a city with an individually unique history. But we also must recognize that the 'China' article is not just about the current government, but about a civilization, and in WP terms, this would place HK most definitely under that project. .:DavuMaya:. 20:06, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I agree the search system on wikipedia is too unforgiving on spelling mistakes/variations. But there should be no need to go create chinese-romanization redirects because either you know the artist by thier chinese or english names. If you know thier english name, you will search them here exactly. If you know their chinese names, you will search for the chinese wikipedia and perhaps redirect to the english one. 08:45, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm going to get a slap on the wrist from WP but in the case of redirects and notoriety, I would actually do a Google search on each name variation to see which spellings gain the most hits and use those as redirects. The user Halahala123 have been continously added this really biased section onto the page Joey Yung. I already knew this was another one of those Joey-Yung haters as soon as I saw the title of the section "related criminal incidences". If she was never even charged, how can she be a criminal? There are other words such as "arrested" when it's more like asked for questioning. He even bolded her name throughout the section. I have reverted twice, and figured he's not going to stop, and even got warned by an admin. I have never met someone so stubborn yet. I don't really know how to handle this. Any comments? Thanks! The South China Morning Post has articles which refer to the arrest of Joey Yung (and Albert Yeung of EEG), and "arrest" does have a specific meaning and is, I would argue, notable. Maybe the section heading could have been better worded, but the fact that she has been arrested at least once and questioned on other occasions is, in my opinion, notable. Wiki is not an extension of the EEG's cantopop marketing machine, yet it seems by Dengero's own admission on his page that this is exactly his mission here on Wikipedia. His son, Gilbert, was accused of assaulting a banker in Lan Kwai Fong in 1997 and was bound over after the prosecution offered no evidence against him. In 2000, Gilbert Yeung was caught in possession of drugs at a rave party and fined $7,000. Early this year his sexual exploits made the cover of Eastweek magazine, owned by his father. Even my roommates were asking me about Edison Chen and I'm like that happened MONTHS ago and you haven't even seen one movie with him in it! Area in the examples are generalisation only. Its use is subjective and changes with time. In official use of Area, it is usually large or rural. For example,

Tsim Sha Tsui District is not wrong at all. Other than the scheme of district council, there are many other district dividing schemes. In fact, in 1963 there are forty something districts in the urban Hong Kong, including Tsim Sha Tsui. The argument is not as stated. The argument that is being presented is that none of the 100 Yue (the autochthonous inhabitants of what was then called Nanyue), before that region was Sinicized, were Sinitic peoples, ethnolinguistically, but were a mixture of numerous Tai-speaking and other non-Sinitic ethnic groups. Thus, the ancestors of the Vietnamese and Cantonese, it is argued, were not yet Sinitic/Sinicized. I agree that it doesn't make sense to substitute a Vietnamese name, as the Vietnamese were only a single group among the 100 Yue, and one of the southernmost groups, at that, having their origin in the Red River valley of northern Vietnam. I've added a new parameter to the WPHK template that'll put former FA articles in the new category Category:Former FA-Class Hong Kong articles. All you have to do is put "formerFA=yes" in the WPHK tag and it'll do the categorisation. Stick that param in the tag as you find former FA Hong Kong articles.
