The 1968 Nelson and Colne by-election was a

British House of Commons constituency of Nelson and Colne on 27 June 1968, following the death of Labour Member of Parliament (MP) Sydney Silverman
.

The constituency was considered usually safe, having been won by Labour at the 1966 general election by over 4,500 votes.[1]
