Route description

Route 72 begins at Chandler Fashion Center alongside route 81, running north on Chandler Village Drive and heading west onto Chandler Boulevard. It then turns north onto Rural Road, which then becomes Scottsdale Road after crossing Rio Salado Parkway. It continues all the way up to Thompson Peak Parkway, terminating while looping around HonorHealth Scottsdale Thompson Peak Parkway.

History

The route originally ran between Chandler Fashion Center and Princess Boulevard/Princess Drive. It was extended north to Mayo Boulevard on July 23, 2007[1] and extended further to Thompson Peak Parkway on January 25, 2010, with every other trip short turning at Scottsdale Park & Ride.[2] Later that year, all trips were extended to Thompson Peak Parkway, with all of them serving Scottsdale Park & Ride.[3] On July 25, 2011, Loloma Station was closed and route 72 was streamlined onto Scottsdale Road.[4] On January 27, 2014, all buses were rerouted to serve SkySong Transit Center.[5] Rush hour short turns were eliminated in 2018[6] and the deviation to Tempe Transportation Center was discontinued on April 26, 2021.[7]
