There are six dwelling Houses in this Township, one on the N.W. 1/4 of the NW. 1/4 of Section 2 One on the S.W. 1/4 of NW. 1/4 of Section 2 belonging to Daniel McCan.[7]
Founded January 27, 1885, the town was named after Chester A. Arthur, the 21st president of the United States.[8] It was created from the towns of Anson and Sigel. Arthur's first town chairman was H.P. Buchanan who held office until 1890.
Geography
The town is in east-central Chippewa County and is bordered on its northwest corner by the Chippewa River. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 43.1 square miles (111.5 km2), of which 42.9 square miles (111.1 km2) is land and 0.19 square miles (0.5 km2), or 0.42%, is water.[3]

There were 258 households, out of which 38.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.6% were married couples living together, 5.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.2% were non-families. 21.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.22.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 28.6% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 114.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 109.5 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $40,000, and the median income for a family was $44,464. Males had a median income of $25,446 versus $21,830 for females. The
