Bluewater is located in northern La Paz County at 34°10′1″N 114°16′18″W / 34.16694°N 114.27167°W / 34.16694; -114.27167 (34.166976, -114.271589).^[4] It sits on the southeast bank of the Colorado River and is bordered to the north, across the river, by the community of Bluewater, California.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.2 km²), of which 2.1 square miles (5.4 km²) are land and 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²), or 12.91%, are water.^[3]
