Detroit Lions
On August 29, 2016, the 49ers traded Thomas to the Detroit Lions in exchange for wide receiver Jeremy Kerley.[16]
On September 3, 2016, he was waived by the Lions and was signed to the practice squad the next day.[17][18] He signed a reserve/future contract with the Lions on January 9, 2017.[19]
On September 3, 2017, Thomas was waived by the Lions.[20] He was signed to the practice squad on October 3, 2017.[21] He was released on October 14, 2017.
Jacksonville Jaguars
On October 23, 2017, Thomas was signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice squad.[22] He was released on November 23, 2017, but was re-signed four days later.[23] He signed a reserve/future contract with the Jaguars on January 22, 2018.[24]

Coaching career
In 2022, Thomas began his coaching career when he joined the staff at his alma mater, Clemson, as an offensive graduate assistant.[29]
