Doree (transl. chord) is an Indian Hindi-language drama television series that premiered on 6 November 2023 on Colors TV and digitally streams on Jio Cinema.[1][2] The series aims to promote awareness on the issue of girl child abandonment.[3][4][5] The series stars Mahi Bhanushali, Amar Upadhyay and Sudha Chandran.[6][7][8]

Plot

The story centers around Doree, an adorable six year old girl who resides in the Bunkar Mohalla of Banaras with her foster father, Ganga Prasad after being abandoned at birth by her biological family because she was not born male.

Doree comes from a high-ranking family in her village, her biological family is headed by Kailashi Thakur who sees young girls as burdens and she despises them. Kailashi Thakur forbade his sons from having daughters at the risk of losing their inheritance, his eldest son and his wife cannot have children which causes Kailashi's anger towards them and his second son Anand Thakur who is none other than Doree's biological father. He is a greedy and cruel man who did not hesitate for a moment to take his daughter from the hand of his wife Mansi Thakur to get rid of her and exchange her with a boy named Vansh. Doree is saved by a disabled man named Ganga Prasad who decided to raise him despite opposition from his mother.

6 years later

Doree and her father are very close. Doree goes to a temple disguised as Mahadev and Kailashi also goes to the temple where she ends up meeting Doree and was about to give her offering when Doree tells her that there are other children in line before me which makes Kailashi angry and asks the priest how a girl can dress up as Mahadev and Doree asks him why a girl can't dress up as Mahadev and she tells him that the place for girls is in the kitchen and if a girl refuses being in the kitchen she will go to hell but Doree tells her that her father always told her that People were equal which provokes even more anger from Kailashi who takes a pot of water to clean Doree's disguise and her breaks the pot and at the same time a post is about to fall on her head but Doree saves her. Instead of being grateful she became furious and she says to him why did she touch her. Doree replies that the pole was going to fall on her. Kailashi told her that it was better to let her die than to ruin her precious sari. She is about to hit her but Ganga comes and stops her. He says please forgive her she didn't want to trouble you and he says come to Bunkar Mohalla so that his grandmother will clean her saree but She says even if it was the end of the world she would never go to this dirty neighborhood and she tells him to tell Doree that she is a girl and that she must learn to fear the world and only manage the house.
