Douglas Arthur Smith (born June 13, 1960) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive tackle for eight seasons for the Houston Oilers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Auburn Tigers and was selected by the Oilers in the second round of the 1984 NFL draft. Smith also played for the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League (USFL). During his time with the Oilers, Smith was famous for having timely injuries to provide much needed rest for the defense then return to action two plays later. Many fans considered him a cagey veteran.
