Chaos In The CBD are a house music duo from Auckland, New Zealand, consisting of brothers Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales. The duo create understated house and techno that encompass elements of jazz, tribal and the balearic sound.[1]

History

The duo began releasing music in the early 2010s, truly arriving with the release of 2015 Midnight in Peckham; the EP's hypnotic, horn-driven title cut became an underground hit.[2] Numerous releases on the duo's own In Dust We Trust imprint followed, including 2017's Accidental Meetings and 2022's Intimate Fantasy. Their first commercially issued DJ mix, Fabric Presents Chaos in the CBD, arrived in 2023.[3]

With ever strengthening production credentials, the brothers have been able to mark themselves out as one of the most eminent underground duos to emerge out of the South Pacific.[4]

Performance Highlights

The brothers recorded five

Boiler Room stage once again with a standout set at Glitch Festival in Malta.[8]

In March 2022 the Helliker-Hales brothers make a deep and soulful BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix debut, dropping tracks from Ron Trent, N.Arena, Zodiac and more.[9]

The duo’s strong grasp of house music history made their Fabric presents Chaos In The CBD essential listening in 2023. Creating a tunnel between 1990 to 2007, the mix is a timeless listen, condensing the ebbs, flows, gear changes and the feelings that surface during an all-night-long experience. Set to stand the test of time, it will surely be appreciated by older heads of the rave just as much as the new generation cutting their teeth on dance music.[10]

Notable Touring

The return after a UK lockdown saw the brothers embark on an All night chaos UK tour which took place every weekend of October and November 2021 with shows in Cardiff, Bristol, Liverpool, Brighton, Sheffield, Manchester, Leeds and of course London.

In November 21 they held a 5 week residency at Phonox where they played 5 Fridays in a row which included 2x all night long sets as well as guests such as Jon Sable, 404 Eros and more.[11]

November 2022 saw them make their long awaited return in the capital for an all night long extravaganza at the iconic South London institution, Electric Brixton which sold out quickly![12]

2023 saw 3x sold out Headline shows in London alone, with an all night long at Village Underground[13], an all day long outdoor at The Cause[14], and finally a sold out show at Koko, Camden.[15]
