The Union Pacific Class TTT-6 is a class of 2-10-2 "Santa Fe" type steam locomotives
History
Between 1917 and 1924, the Union Pacific Railroad had purchased a total of 144 2-10-2 "Santa Fe" types, divided into a total of seven classes, TTT-1, TTT-2, TTT-3, TTT-4. TTT-5, TTT-6 and TTT-7.
American Locomotive Company (ALCO) had built 18 examples, Baldwin Locomotive Works (BLW) had built 88 examples and Lima Locomotive Works (LLW) had built 37 examples. Despite the divided classes, all of the UP 2-10-2s had the same cylinder dimensions, driving wheel diameter and boiler pressure.
Withdrawal of the class had occurred and not all of them were scrapped, one examples had survived into preservation, and that sole survivor is #5511, No. 5511 was spared from the scrap heap and was stored inside the UP's Cheyenne Roundhouse for the next six decades. During that time, the locomotive was temporarily repainted and pulled out of the UP's Cheyenne Roundhouse and moved outside, onto a turntable to be displayed for a National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) convention.
Subsequently, the locomotive was stored without boiler jacketing. As of today, No. 5511 is currently awaiting a full restoration to operational condition.
