History

Hanover was laid out in 1849, although there had been business activity at the site for some time.[4] An early variant name was Fleming, for John Fleming, the original owner of the town site.^[5]

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.68 square miles (4.35 km²), of which 1.66 square miles (4.30 km²) is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 km²) is water.^[6]

The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.21.

The median age in the village was 37.5 years. 29.3% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.9% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 23.7% were from 25 to 44; 26.3% were from 45 to 64; and 13.8% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the village was 51.8% male and 48.2% female.
