History

Hartford was laid out in 1824, and named after Hartford, Connecticut, the native home of a share of the early settlers.^[4]

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.55 square miles (1.42 km²), all land.^[5]

Although the village is named Hartford, its post office is named Croton.^[6]
