Karsten Henriksen is a Canadian educator and administrator who serves as the

Northern Saskatchewan.[1][2][3][4]

Life and career

Henriksen grew up in Vancouver, Canada. He earned a B.A. in sociology from Brandon University in 2003 and later obtained an M.A. in interdisciplinary studies from Royal Roads University.[5]

Henriksen began his academic career as a regional director at North Island College in 2010. He later became the dean of the School of Environment at Olds College of Agriculture & Technology where he founded the Olds College Brewery (www.ocbeer.ca) before joining Northwestern Polytechnic in 2013 as director of continuing education.[6] After leaving Northwestern Polytechnic, Henriksen joined the Nunavut Arctic College and served as vice-president (assistant deputy minister) until 2019. Following his tenure at Nunavut Arctic College, Henriksen served as vice president, academic at Lambton College for a year.[7][8][9]

In September 2022, Henriksen became the president and CEO of Northlands College in northern Saskatchewan.[10][11][12] Henriksen also teaches MBA courses at University Canada West.[6]

During his time at Northlands College, domestic enrollment and the number of scholarships have both increased.[13] The first dental therapy clinic in Northern Canada was launched.[14] The school also added a College of Indigenous Health Leadership and established the Centre for Indigenous Health Leadership.[citation needed] Henriksen is an advocate for the LGBTQ community, being one of the first openly gay post-secondary leaders in Canada.[citation needed]

Honors and awards

Henriksen received the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (2022) for his service to education in Saskatchewan.
