Plot

Madhav "Maddy" Kabra (

Imran Khan) is an architect who falls in love with Payal Saluja (Kangana Ranaut
) during college. After college they begin a live-in relationship for 5 years until suddenly Payal leaves Maddy. While all his friends tell him to forget about Payal, Maddy crazily tries to find Payal and win her back, during which the story flashes back to what happened during their 5-year relationship. Finally Maddy finds out that Payal is dying of cancer. Maddy and Payal patch up and live happily for 4 months until Payal dies in Maddy's arms, making him promise that he'll always keep this love alive in his heart and love again.

The soundtrack of Katti Batti was composed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy and the lyrics were written by Kumaar. The first song titled "Sarfira" was released on 12 August 2015. The music rights for the film were acquired by Zee Music Company. The full audio album was released on 27 August 2015.[5][6]

Promotion

The first look of the movie was revealed on 12 June 2015,[7] and the trailer of the movie was released on 14 June 2015.[8][9] The film was released on 18 September 2015.[10][11]

India

Katti Batti grossed approximately 52.8 million (equivalent to 80 million or US$1.0 million in 2023) on opening day.[12] Its two days total stand at 105.3 million (equivalent to 160 million or US$2.0 million in 2023) as it collected same collection on its second day as it collected on its first day.[13] The film grossed around 157.4 million (equivalent to 240 million or US$3.0 million in 2023) in its first weekend.[14] On its fourth day the film collected 19.1 million (equivalent to 29 million or US$360,000 in 2023) net.[15] The film collected 16.0 million (equivalent to 24 million or US$300,000 in 2023) net on its fifth day.[16] The film collected 225 million (equivalent to 340 million or US$4.3 million in 2023) net in its first week worldwide.[17]

Overseas

The film grossed an estimated 77.2 million (equivalent to 120 million or US$1.5 million in 2023) internationally within its first four days.[15] By the end of its first week, the film had grossed approximately 93.9 million (equivalent to 140 million or US$1.8 million in 2023) internationally.[18]
