History

In 2013,

Interprovincial Championship, Cup and Trophy featuring teams from Leinster, the NCU and the North West

. The Leinster team is known as Leinster Lightning.

In January 2015, Ted Williamson was announced as the new head coach, taking over at the helm from Trent Johnston.^[1] Under his coaching, Leinster Lightning took a clean-sweep of trophies in the 2015 and 2016 seasons before he stepped down from the position.^[2]

Up to and including the 2016 Inter-Provincial Championship, the matches were not given first-class status. However, at an International Cricket Council meeting in October 2016, first-class status was awarded to all future matches.^[3]^[4]

In 2019, Nigel Jones was appointed to the role of Head Coach and Pathway Manager.^[5] Following the 2019 season the Inter-Provincial Championship was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic and has yet to return.^[6]

In the history of the Inter-provincial series, Lightning have won 21 of the available 29 trophies.^[7]

2023 was the first season in which the team failed to win at least one competition.
