Misikhu is a rural town on the southern slopes of

Mt Elgon, in Bungoma County, Kenya.[1] Located ten kilometres north of Webuye
towards Kitale, Misikhu is both an administrative and commercial town.

Population

Misikhu is populated mainly by the

Lubukusu and Swahili. Other immigrant communities such as Kikuyu, Luo, Kisii and Kambas
are present but in small numbers.

The area is locally known for its schools, which include St. Cecilia Misikhu Girls School, Misikhu R.C Boys, Friends School Magemo and St Francis Secondary School, Makemo.

Misikhu is a small market that lies in between two constituencies. That is Webuye West constituency and webuye east constituency. Misikhu market lies on the North of Webuye town on the way towards Kitale.It is almost near Kamukuywa market. It is strategically positioned in Webuye West constituency under the Memner of parliament-Dan Wanyama.Under Misikhu ward led by Member of county Assembly Millia Masungo. Misikhu is slowly growing and the main economic activity is farming. Farmers mostly grow maize plantation as maize acts as the staple food in Misikhu.Farmers also take part I am growing sugarcane which has been the major cash crop in misikhu ward. Trading activities are also key components in Misikhu ward. Sunday is the official market day on Misikhu market. Most activities are agri-economic business. For example selling cattle for example cows, goats and sheep. In terms of Religion, Misikhu ward is made up people with different religions. Most people are of Quaker denomination because of the Quaker missionaries who came around Lugulu mission area to spread Christianity.There are some other denominations such as ACK for example Sirende ACK. Salvation Army denomination, Devine African churches, Pentecostal churches and others. Friends Churches include Bunang'eni and Misikhu friends churches. Interms of culture, Misikhu ward people are equipped with rich cultural activities. For example talking part in initiation ceremonies, unique burial ceremonies and some other cultural diversions. Interms of leadership, Misikhu ward was being ruled by Mr Mwembe as the Member of county Assembly, that is from 2013 to 2017, the by Millia Masungo from 2017 to date. There are other aspiring leaders, for example Dr.Leviticus Wamalwa who is aspiring to be the next Member of county assembly-Misikhu ward.
