Nalina Moses is a registered architect and author who works in New York City. She is an experienced designer in retail, residential and institutional architecture with projects internationally.[1] Moses studied art history at Yale University and received a master's of architecture at Harvard University Graduate School of Design.[1] She has written about architecture and design in a range of online and printed publications, including her blog, Drown Me in Beauty.[2] She published her first book, Single-Handedly: Contemporary Architects Draw By Hand in 2019.[2]

Architecture career

Nalina Moses founded Nalina Moses Architect P.C. in 2009 where she continues to work today.[3] Through her company, she has a contract position as lead designer for Tiffany and Co.[3] She is a registered architect with expertise in high-end retail design, previously working as a project manager for retail brands such as Coach, Michael Kors and Polo Ralph Lauren and worked at the Architecture firm, Gentler and Robert A. M Stern.[3]

Awards

Nalina Moses was awarded the Architecture Writing Fellowship at the writer's colony in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.[3]

Single-Handedly: Contemporary Architects Draw By Hand

Nalina Moses is the author of, Single-Handedly: Contemporary Architects Draw By Hand which was published by

freehand forms of architectural drawing.[7] This includes how the act of drawing by hand can benefit the creative process,[7] and be a tool for experimenting freely. It's also useful to express atmosphere and organization of a building by using quick sketches.[8] The publication was presented along with an accompanied exhibit at the Art Omi in 2020.[9] In Paul Glassman's review of the book drew the conclusion from it that "if architects are to continue as visionaries, they must preserve the venerable technique of drawing that makes personal expression possible."[6]

Sun, stone, glass and new wealth: a critical overview of new architecture in India is an article authored by Nalina Moses for the Harvard Design Magazine in Spring/Summer 2009 issue 30.[12] In the article Moses explores the architectural transformations that will ensue after India's extensive economic growth over the past 20 years, similar to that of China's rapid development.[13] She mentions her research in the article regarding current development trends in India, stating:

... almost all the large projects under way in India today are being spearheaded by celebrated European and American Designers...These American and European firms have received so much attention might reflect the media's disinterest in the work of Indian-based firms. It might also reflect a genuine bias toward the selection of foreign designers.[12]

Nalina Moses also maintains a blog, Drown me in Beauty, that includes dozens of entries on searching for beauty, and uncovering what that means.[14] Other published work includes articles in journals such as; ArchitectureBoston, Artwirt, Design Bureau, Harvard Design Magazine, Vogue.[15] She has also been a member and mentor for the Women in the Profession of Architecture since 2020.[1]
