Olin Hacker (born 21 May 1996) is an American track and field athlete who competes as a

long distance runner. He was runner-up at the US national indoors championships in 2024 over 3000 metres.[1]

Early and personal life

His father Tim Hacker was from a family of long distance runners. He was a collegiate champion cross country runner, as well as the United States cross country champion in 1997 and the nation’s 5,000-meter champion in 1989. Olin attended Madison West High School in Madison, Wisconsin and won state cross country titles in 2013 and 2014, as well becoming state champion in the mile and two-mile distances. He has two older brothers, Sam and Wilson and a sister called Vivian, all of whom have competed in athletics.[2][3]

Career

Hacker won the

University of Wisconsin.[4]

In 2023, he finished third at the US national indoors championships in

Albuquerque, in 8:14.33.[5] He finished seventh at the US national outdoor championships over 5000 metres in 2023, and was later selected for the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Riga.[6] He finished in fourteenth place over 5km in a time of 13:36.[7]

He finished as runner-up in the 3000 metres at the US National Indoors Championships in New Mexico in February 2024, in a time of 7:56.22.[8] He was subsequently selected for the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow.[9] In the 3000 metres race he finished in fifth place in a season’s best time of 7:45.40.[10]
