Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 35.6 square miles (92 km2), of which 35.5 square miles (92 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) (0.14%) is water.

Communities

  • Deer Lake was a lumbering community in this township. It also was a station on the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad. It had a post office from 1881 until 1893.[3]

The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 2.93.

In the township the population was spread out, with 23.3% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 29.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 104.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 107.1 males.
