Continental Divide. Originally named Quartzville, it was renamed to honor Governor Frederick Walker Pitkin.[7]

Geography

Pitkin is located at 38°36′28″N 106°31′6″W / 38.60778°N 106.51833°W / 38.60778; -106.51833 (38.607886, -106.518454).[8] Pitkin is at an elevation of 9,242 feet, about 28 miles northeast of Gunnison, Colorado.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2), all of it land.
