Ransom Township is a township in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,401 at the 2020 census.[2] The township includes the village of Milwaukee.

History

Ransom Township was established in

Newton townships. The township is named for Samuel Ransom, a captain who fought and died at the nearby Battle of Wyoming.[3] It became part of Lackawanna County
when that county was formed in 1878.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 18.0 square miles (46.5 km2), of which 17.6 square miles (45.7 km2) is land and 0.3 square mile (0.9 km2) (1.84%) is water.

The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 2.91.

In the township the population was spread out, with 19.4% under the age of 18, 63.7% from 18 to 64, and 16.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45.4 years.
