Roy Luke Dias (born 18 October 1952) is a former Sri Lankan
An elegant and stylish[citation needed] right-handed batsman he played 20 Test matches and became the first Sri Lankan to hit 1,000 Test runs.[1] He played representative cricket for Sri Lanka from 1979 to 1987.
International career
With his 214 runs in the
Sri Lanka was promoted to Test status three years later, and Dias was picked for the first Test. He had a difficult start, being dismissed for a duck by

Coaching career
In May 1998, Dias succeeded Bruce Yardley as head coach of Sri Lanka.[2] His tenure saw Sri Lanka record its first away Test victory over England in 1998 and a loss to Pakistan in the final of the 1998–99 Asian Test Championship. He was sacked after the team's poor performance at the 1999 Cricket World Cup.[3]
Dias was appointed head coach of
In 2011, Dias was appointed coach of Oman.[6] He coached the team at the 2011 ACC Twenty20 Cup.[7] In 2012 he joined Cricket Malaysia as director of coaching and head coach of Malaysia on a two-year contract.[8]
Dias was appointed coach of the Sri Lanka national under-19 cricket team in 2016.[3] He was removed after the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.[9]
