Sheldon M. Wiederhorn (May 4, 1933 – June 3, 2021) was an American materials scientist affiliated with the National Institute of Standards and Technology.[1]
Biography
Wiederhorn was born on May 4, 1933,[2] in The Bronx, the son of immigrants. He received his B.S. in chemical engineering from Columbia University in 1956 and was a member of the men's swim team.[1] He then received his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.[1]

Wiederhorn was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1991 for "outstanding advancements in the development and application of test methods and basic understanding of the mechanical properties of ceramics."[4]
Wiederhorn died on June 3, 2021, at age 88.[3]
