History

Mt. Torry Furnace was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.[3]

Geography

Sherando is located at 37°59′25″N 78°57′4″W / 37.99028°N 78.95111°W / 37.99028; -78.95111 (37.990334, −78.950983).[4]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.1 square miles (18.3 km2), of which, 7.0 square miles (18.2 km2) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km2) of it (0.28%) is water.

The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 2.73.

In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 23.2% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 34.1% from 25 to 44, 25.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.6 males.
