Shimata Station (島田駅, Shimata-eki) is a passenger

railway station located in the city of Hikari, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. It is operated by the West Japan Railway Company (JR West).[1]
The station is located in the rural northern part of the Shimata area in Hikari, on the north side of the city's territory.

The station consists of two opposed side platforms connected by a footbridge. In between the two tracks there is a third track which connects to the other two, but is currently unused. The station is unattended.

History

Shimata Station was opened on 25 September 1897 as a station on the

Japan National Railway
(JNR) on 1 April 1987, the station came under the aegis of the West Japan railway Company (JR West).
