Henriksen grew up in Vancouver, Canada. He earned a B.A. in sociology from Brandon University in 2003 and later obtained an M.A. in interdisciplinary studies from Royal Roads University.[5]

Henriksen began his academic career as a regional director at North Island College in 2010.
