Orphaned article

Hi whoever is listening :)

I'm new to Wikipedia and new to any software language, but I'm getting there. What I can't figure out is how to get my article on Ossur de-orphaned.

Does this mean that I have to submit other articles that reference it? I've edited three other Wikipedia articles that mention Ossur to link back to my article, but that didn't seem to be enough.

Is there something else I should be doing?

Many thanks, and this could get addictive! Beverlina —Preceding unsigned comment added by Beverlina (talkcontribs) 04:04, 10 May 2008

Hi, Beverlina. Yes, the idea is to find other articles that might benefit from being linked to this article (such as "Oscar Pistorius", which I see you've already found), and add the links. In any case, the "orphan" tag has already been removed.
I have a few suggestions on how this article could be improved:
  • Should the article be renamed "Össur"? Is that the proper name of the company? I note from the company's website that that is the name used on its logo.
  • The article currently reads like a promotional blurb issued by the company, and has insufficient references. In general, each paragraph should have at least one reference at the end to indicate where the information was obtained from. If the information was from the company's website, include a citation to that. Also, try to provide links to other sources. For instance, has Össur been mentioned in the news? Search the websites of major newspapers and insert links to relevant news articles.

Jacklee, ever so many thanks! In regards to your questions, only the logo carries the umlaut in English. I worked so hard to keep it from reading like a commercial or promotional blurb, and will continue to add references. I need to spend some more quality time on the Ossur page very soon, as there are many excellent articles in as many languages about the company and the people who represent it. I very much appreciate your changes already!--Beverlina (talk) 03:00, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. If you want to have a look at an article on a company to get an idea of what is desirable for a Wikipedia article, visit "Boosey & Hawkes", which I worked on a while back. Feel free to ask me questions on this talk page. — Cheers, JackLee talk 14:54, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions for improving the article

Hi, Beverlina, just thought I'd summarize the ways in which the article could be improved:

  • The article currently reads like a promotional blurb issued by the company.
  • It has insufficient references.
  • There are rather too many bulleted lists. I think the lists in the sections "Acquisitions", "Awards and accolades" and "Team Ossur" are all right, but those in "Products" and "Bionic Technology Platform" are unnecessary and should be rewritten in continuous prose.
  • I'm not sure of the relevance of the review articles that you've put in the "Further reading" section. You haven't explained what "unloader bracing" is anywhere in the article or how it relates to Ossur's products.
  • I don't think the external link to the World Economic Forum website is particularaly relevant. It should be removed.

Hope this is useful. — Cheers, JackLee talk 15:04, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in
Ossur

I check pages listed in

Ossur
's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "AR2008":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 23:28, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose The company may use Ossur on their American website, but they use Össur on their British website Össur: Life Without Limitations, and internationally. This is just a case of different varieties of English. Skinsmoke (talk) 01:36, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If that's the case, the page should never have been moved at all (see
WP:MGA#Determining consensus), so it should be reverted back to the stable title. Dekimasuよ! 04:54, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply
