There was a request by the last editor to have more examples of 1940s films. I kind of agree - at least have a few more high profile releases (like Citizen Kane, The Maltese Falcon et cetera)

A nice list of notable films could be useful, especially for those trying to find whether certain films are from this era, seeing similar films and knowing they're on the right track.Helmetlad 19:15, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I know it is 3 and a half years later, but I agree. When I have the list sourced out I will try to first find some sources to improve the lead, and secondly I want to provide at least a short sentence for each list item that can be attributed to a reliable source. List articles should not simply be lists but also contain significant amounts of encyclopedic content.

I also fully support addition of new movies but I really do think it is a good idea to find references to a reliable source confirming notability and the facts being presented(that it was a movie made in that year) at the time of addition. Items in this list need to have references to demonstrate both notability and verifiability. I am going to make a project of finding such references or removing the one's that do not have available references. Any help would be appreciated, I will document my progress here. It is not hard to find reviews for most of these movies, The New York Times is an excellent source as they keep their old movie reviews from the 40's online. I have had a little trouble finding something for "A-Haunting We Will Go" so I have passed it over for now and will try again before I move onto the Bs. If anyone wants to help then just claim a letter here so we don't get edit conflicts(when editing different sections instead of the whole page then conflicts are automatically resolved). There are small letters with few or even one movie, and there are large letters with over a dozen so you can pick the size of bite you want to take. Sam Barsoom 02:40, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed "The Arsenal Stadium Mystery" as three sources[1][2][3] indicate it is from 1939. This is why lists have to be verified, if they are not them factual errors creep in. Sam Barsoom 18:22, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bloody hell. Just as I finish up with the As I find that the New York Times makes some of their links temporary then require login, clearly not acceptable for a citation. I am removing these dead links and will seek other citations. Why a reputable source of information would intentionally make their links die is beyond me. I have found a way to cite The New York Times reviews despite them preventing me from linking directly. I have checked over at
