The source for the 31 dead and 300 injured (the Post-Courier) now has 20 as the death toll [1]. It looks like the 31 was an initial estimate. However, the number of casualties may rise, so I'm minded to leave it as it is for now. Mikenorton (talk) 10:02, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, I had the same thoughts on that, since the areas closest to the epicenter are yet to be reached by assessment teams. Some local reports suggest the final toll could be above 50. Some sources are now talking about 100+ for the casualties. Some of them are making it clear that the number refers to the total including any aftershock fatalities, others aren't clear at all. We now have 100+ (main shock) +11 (6.2 aftershock) +25 (6.7 aftershock), total =136+, which may not be true. Again numbers may rise further as people search through the landslides, but we have to watch that we're not combining numbers that shouldn't be combined. We're now up to 145, but again it's not clear whether that's a overall total for mainshock and aftershocks combined, although that seesm the most likely as the Guardian source doesn't mention deaths from aftershocks. We certainly shouldn't claim 181 total deaths as that would be

The Guardian article refers to the mainshock, as far as I could tell, so that does make sense IMO. Final toll might still climb, but I am monitoring ReliefWeb and news aggregators from time to time to check on updates. Skycycle (talk) 22:40, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There are reports specifying 125 including those who died in the aftershocks [2] and we have the country's Prime Minister giving 150 [3] with no indication that he's talking only about the mainshock and frankly why would he separate them? Mikenorton (talk) 11:09, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
