Did You Know A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on April 19, 2021.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that runner-up Ronnie O'Sullivan almost withdrew from the 2021 Tour Championship after sending his cue stick for repair twice before the event?

Match length source

Do commentators who are at the venue count as valid sources for the length of the matches? We have multiple commentators (who are likely going to be apprised of the situation) confirming that all matches are going to be Best of 19's from start to finish, including Dave Hendon: refer here for more info. Would've linked Alan McManus' tweeting the same but his account is marked as private so only visible to those already following him. I find it unlikely that the commentators, who are likely preparing for the tournament to start tomorrow and are almost certainly on site, would be incorrect in their assessment. --CitroenLover (talk) 17:49, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why is Bingham listed for the Cazoo Cup?

He can't win the cup, as he's not in the event.— Preceding unsigned comment added by {} (talk • contribs)

Your point being? Isn't that just a list of the top 10 scorers? We would have one at the end of the tournament too. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 22:23, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why are we not allowed to make note of debutants for this event?

Like we have done previously for events like the World Grand Prix? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:BB6:1AE4:D658:9D4C:73D2:6695:FF2 (talk) 22:42, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I mean, debutants in the prose isn't so bad, especially for the summary, but I'm yet to find a reliable source saying that they are debutants. Just saying it is

Cazoo Cup bonus

The commentators on TV have made no reference to a £100,000 bonus or of a Cazoo Cup. How is a Tweet from Barry Hearn not reliable? Radamfi (talk) 10:41, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

5x expanded by Lee Vilenski (talk). Self-nominated at 15:04, 28 March 2021 (UTC).[reply]

  • article expansion checks out, no copyvio detected. QPQ review is fine. Two things: (a) there's a [citation needed] in there which could be resolved but isn't critical and (b) although Ronnie didn't win, you could put "losing finalist" or "runner-up" in the hook to establish that despite nearly jacking it in, he almost won the whole thing? Nothing critical though, good to go. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 20:51, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Happy to have "runner-up" precede Ronnie O'Sullivan. I wrote this before the final, I was kinda hoping he'd win to make the hook better! Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:12, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Lee Vilenski, there's a citation needed tag on the article. Can you please address that and ping me when you've done so? Thanks! MeegsC (talk) 15:28, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

  • Wikilink sessions to the relevant article
  • "taking place from 22 to 28 March 2021 at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales." - a comma is missing after the end date
  • "The event is sponsored by car retailer Cazoo." - past tense; was`

Overview

  • "The 2021 Tour Championship was the third and final event in the 2020–21 Cazoo Cup series, first introduced in the 2018–19 snooker season, the first two events being the World Grand Prix and the Players Championship." - repetition of "event"
  • "(the ranking points won over the 2019–20 season)" - over the course of the 2019–20 season
  • Wikilink South Wales
    • I'd argue South Wales is large enough to not be required to be linked like we do with major landmasses such as countries. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:07, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The tournament is primarily broadcast by ITV4 in the United Kingdom." - another case of incorrect use of tense; was
  • "across America, Italy and Spain." - the Americas, Germany, Italy and Spain.
  • "The event is sponsored by car retailer Cazoo." - was

Qualification

  • "Jordan Brown was the ninth ranked player, acted as the first travelling reserve for the event.[12]" - not mentioned in the source at the end of this sentence. Another reliable source is needed to verify it

Quarter-finals

  • Wikilink the term session to the relevant article on the first mention
  • "O'Sullivan pulled ahead by three to 8–5 later in the match, " - three frames
  • "O'Sullivan then made a break of 101, the 1,100th century break of his career.[14][18]" - reference 14 is not needed at the end of this sentence since it does not mention this fact
  • "O'Sullivan won the match in frame 18, after Higgins missed a pot on the yellow ball.[14][18]" - same issue as above
  • "Robertson won the opening frame, but Lisowski won the second," - needs verifying since the Eurosport reference at the end of this sentence does not explicitly mention this
  • "Robertson won the opening frame, but Lisowski won the second," - repetition of "won"
  • "Selby also won the next two frames with breaks of 81 and 54." - Eurosport only mentioned a "half-century" but the Reference 23 World Snooker source does mention this fact
  • "Barring the Snooker Shoot Out, a one-frame tournament, this was the only tournament in the season Wilson had not scored a single century break." - repetition of "tournament"
  • "Judd Trump met Barry Hawkins in the final quarter-final." - repetition of "final"
  • "making a break of 112 in frame four." - World Snooker states the break was 119
  • "The next three frames were won by Hawkins, before Trump won frame eight to trail 3–5." - repetition of "won"
  • "Hawkins won the next two frames including break of 61 to lead 9–6." - including a break
  • "Hawkins won the match after potting a long brown ball to finish 10–7 ahead." - better; Hawkins won the match 10–7 after potting a long brown ball.

Semi-finals

  • "The semi-finals were played on 26 and 27 March." - needs to be verified by a reliable source
  • "including a break if 114." - of
  • "In the third, Selby made a series of errors" - a word is missing between "third" and the comma
  • "Selby won the next frame, but Roberston won frame 13 to win the match 10–3." - too many uses of the word "win/won" in a single sentence
  • "In frame 16, Hawkins lead with a break of 46," - spelling error; should be led
  • "but O'Sullivan won the frame with a break of 71, and won the next with a break of 90 to trail 8–9." - repetition of "won"

Final

  • "O'Sullivan made only 26 points to Robertsons 650." - O'Sullivan acculmated only 26 points to Robertson's 650.
  • "having never lost more than three in a row prviously.[47][45]" - refs in numerical order, please; also spelling error in "prviously"
  • "but commented that the performance put him in good standing for the world championships." - championship.
  • "In winning the event, Robertson was also able to win the Cazoo Cup." - repetition of "win"

Cazoo Cup

  • The table will need to be verified with a reliable source already used in the article

References

  • References that don't include author name(s) and publication dates that are present will need to be added to the relevant citations
  • Reference 2 is a duplicate of Reference 10
  • I don't think Reference 8 is needed since Reference 7 mentions tournament-specific broadcasters
    • I don't see too much of any issue to show this is confirmed in two refs. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:38, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • The archive link for reference 10 needs to be update to the 2021 tournament from the 2020 competition
  • The archive link for reference 13 goes to a Facebook link
  • In Reference 27 the title, the hyphen in "Mark Selby (England) defeats Kyren Wilson (England) 10-3"" needs to be replaced by an en dash per
    MOS:DASH
  • The title for Reference 32 is incorrect
  • References 5 and 50 are almost virtually identical

Am going to put the review on hold to allow the nominator to address or query the points raised above MWright96 (talk) 20:17, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That should be everything addressed MWright96. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 07:43, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
