Knockout Rounds

The bracket used in the article shows a third-place match being played, but the published regulations make no indication that such a match would be played. The regulations also state that "the AFC may schedule additional Matches to determine the teams participating in the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023." However, I can find no information to corroborate the repechage process explained in the article. If that information is available, please reference it with a citation. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 18:53, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I consider it is speculative, covering several possible permutations (which wont be known until towards the end of the group stage), and should be hidden for now as

Repechage section

Fine then @Jkudlick:, here we go. You say that they are unnecessary as the description of each scenario provides the context, but it still requires readers to take the time to deduce how many matches each scenario will result in. Why not just give readers the number of matches to begin with, without them needing to figure it out from each paragraph-long description by themselves? It is more beneficial to have them than to not have them. -boldblazer 02:30, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Boldblazer: The first scenario specifically states that the losers of the quarter finals 1 and 3 will play each other, and that the losers of quarter finals 2 and 4 will play each other, with the two winners going to the WWC, and the losers going to the inter-confederation play-offs. With only two pairings specifically denoted, it is very easy to deduce that two matches will be played. The second scenario already specifies in the prose that [t]he best team after three matches will advance to the World Cup. I have reread the third scenario several times since I originally published it, and I've never really been happy with how it reads. As a compromise, since I have an idea how i want to rewrite the third scenario, I will add clarifications to the first and third that there will be two and four matches played, respectively. The second scenario does not require any additional clarification since it is already clearly written. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 02:48, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't matter what the difficulty in deducing is, if you still need to deduce in the first place. Just having it plainly there for the reader is the easiest option for all. Also, @Jkudlick:, if you are going to add the number of matches to two of the three scenarios, why not all three of them? There may as well be one for the second scenario at this point, regardless of how clear it is. -boldblazer 02:57, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Boldblazer: I'm not adding it to the second scenario because it is already there. Please read the green words in my first reply to you. That is a direct quote from the prose, very clearly stating that after three matches one team will qualify while the other two go to the inter-confederation play-offs. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 03:01, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Covid-19

How come Iran was still allowed to compete in the tournament after playing India, who had half of their squad tested positive for Covid-19? That's crazy. 120.16.31.155 (talk) 22:12, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
