This brand new article is confusing and unfocussed. It should state clearly that "Aden Province" is the name provisionally given to British Aden between 1932 and 1937 only. The article should then focus on the reason for this name change and what it entailed.

This short article gets completely lost, wandering into unrelated historical events with lots of name throwing, 1608, Ascension Island, the conquest of Aden in 1837, the 24th Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry, Sultan Fadh, the Suez Canal, Zanzibar, a long digression on Kamaran Island, etc!!

Messy. Please, rewrite your article and concentrate on the issue at hand: Aden Province, 1932-1937.--Lubiesque (talk) 14:31, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You are right in that it is confusing. I pasted contributions from Wikipedia users on that period of Yemeni history that I found in different articles. Most are related to the importance of Aden's location and that part needs some abridgment and cleaning up. But "Aden Province" was more that just the name. Ever since occupation the territory of Aden had been a province of British India all along, even when under the label of "Settlement". It would be wrong and confusing to state that Aden was a province only during the short period of 1932-1937 (Xufanc (talk) 04:02, 4 August 2014 (UTC)).[reply]

Could I suggest that Aden Settlement would be better as a separate article instead of redirecting here?

The change of the title to Aden Settlement was not justified. The article is clearly about the 1932-1937 Chief Commissioner's Province of Aden, and not the 1839-1932 Aden Settlement. The fact is that there is no article about the Aden Settlement period on Wikipedia. The best thing to do would be to create an article titled British Aden or Aden (British), that would include the entire British period (1839-1967), including the Aden Settlement. It would include Main Article links to the existing articles Chief Commissioner's Province, Aden Colony and State of Aden. Lubiesque (talk) 14:47, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Another solution — to avoid the creation of a new article and the lengthy approval period — would be to change the title of this article from Chief's Commissioner's Province of Aden to British Aden (or Aden (British)) and fill in the missing info (there is a lot) about the Aden Settlement. The current info about the Chief's Commissioner's Province would remain as a sub-section of the article and there would be main article links to the other Aden periods.--Lubiesque (talk) 14:59, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
